A good stew recipe
I can't take credit for this one, as my buddy gave me the recipe.
1 lb. ground beef
1 can ranch style beans with jalepenos
1 can Rotel
1 can minestrone soup
Defrost beef (if needed). Put all ingredients in crock pot overnight or for several hours. Stir occasionally, especially at beginning to break up beef.
Take several Beano tablets with first bite of the stew.
Perfect for cold weather...

Beowulf movie

I went to see Beowulf, the movie, today.
The big buzz about this movie is the animation. I honestly didn't research it's uniqueness, but it was pretty neat. Some of the "wide shots" seemed a little video gamish but there were plenty of facial closeups and that's where this movie really shone with its CGI. Some of the closeups were quite real looking, down to pores on the noses.
Since the CGI was quite realistic, there were lots of shots that were available that wouldn't be possible with real action. Grendel's violence against the men was quite a gory dismembering display. Grendel's animation was out of this world. Whoever dreamed up his image has a sick but imaginative mind.
There was a bit of near-nudity in parts of the movie including the main battle scene between Beowulf and Grendel. Beowulf fought the monster naked, except that his groin was always covered by something in the scene. It became a little humorous after a few moments of this although the scene was still very intense.
The other bit of nudity was Grendel's mother, played by Angelina Joli. Her main part is done completely nude except that it was like looking at a Barbie doll. She had the shape of her parts but no Rated "R" detail.
Enough of the nudity.
I have not ever read Beowulf, although I wanted to give it a go before I saw the movie. I didn't get to do that, but I will definitely pick up a copy. I'm sure it'll be different but that's OK.
I really enjoyed the movie. It is not one that you can take children or squeamish wives to. There's the nudity, some violence and disturbing scenes. The movie's setting is in Denmark in the Dark Ages with all the barbarism that you can imagine. The moviemakers did not romanticize the setting. And that's a good thing. It was gritty and realistic, even in CGI.

Quote of the Day
"That's not your classic doink."
--Al Michaels on Sunday Night Football
The Buffalo Bills kicker kicked a long field goal and it hit the camera that was mounted on the bottom, curved support portion of the goalposts. It also has a microphone integrated into it. They showed a full speed replay of the field goal attempt (which was good) with sound and you could here it hit. The normal "doink" that Al Michaels was talking about is the sound when the football hits the upright or the crossbar.

My Sooner Lament
First of all, congrats to Texas Tech and Mike Leach. Great game plan and awesome execution. You deserve the win. Good job.
I'm unhappy with the Sooners' attitude.
We have a really good defense. We have an excellent running back rotation. Our offensive line is awesome. Our QB is good and has really good potential. Our coaching staff is sharp.
What we don't have is attitude.
Our "D" has is pretty cocky and for good reason. They're not the best but are solid. Sure, the Red Raiders put up some big numbers in the air against the Sooners, but who do they not beat bad in the air?? That wasn't a surprise. We knew it was going to be a high scoring affair.
But our offense is so fragile. Sam Bradford is good. He's put up good numbers. But his confidence is very fragile. Go to a hostile environment and he doesn't perform well. Don't get me wrong...I love having him on our team. Heck, he's a redshirt freshman. We have him for at least two more years. I hope he graduates and gives us four years. He'll be real good.
I hate to say this but we really miss the pre-idiot Rhett Bhomar. Maybe not Bhomar himself but his cocky attitude. That is something we really don't have on our offense right now and we REALLY need. Even though our running backs are solid, overall, the offense is a house of cards. It showed in spades during both losses (on the road in hostile stadiums). Granted, against Tech, Bradford was out but the feeling was still there to me.
The Sooners need attitude!
Even with our early success, I was never confident that we were a national championship team. Top 10. Maybe Top 5, but not Top 2 or 3. We are missing that swagger that the other teams have. LSU, Oregon, even Kansas...heck even USC and Florida even though they have multiple losses. We just don't have that swagger that we are gonna come in and kick your butt up and down the field. It just seems like we are going out on offense and hoping things turn out right. When it goes well, then we get on a roll and do well. When we hit adversity, it's a toss up.
I saw a comment to an article on one of the major sports internet sites that said that OU stood for Overrated University.
I'm not so sure I disagree...and I live within a handful minutes of the stadium in Norman.
